Smith & Morgan Par 3 Shootout

The Smith & Morgan Par 3 Shootout is a celebration of golf, fellowship, and legacy at Hermitage Country Club and The Valentine Invitational. This special event honors the lasting impact of Richard Smith and Emmett Morgan—two beloved members that were ambassadors for Hermitage, pillars of the regional golf community, and passionate supporters of The Valentine Invitational for many years.

Richard Smith (1939-2016)
- Hermitage member since 1978 - becoming a lifetime honorary member at The Club in 2007 in recognition of his years of service to golf
- VSGA Hall of Fame Class of 2020
- Served as VSGA Director of Competitions for more than 15 years
- Received the David Wortman Citizen of the Year Award from the MAPGA in 2008
- Developed the VSGA Junior Golf Club - now known as the VSGA Junior Golf Circuit featuring over 1,000 members.
- Won the Valentine Invitational in 1976, Richmond Golf Association Senior Championship in 1995 and 1996, and 1999 VSGA Senior Four-Ball Championship
Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Richard Smith was left with a lasting impression they wouldn’t soon forget.

Emmett Morgan (1945-2021)
- Hermitage member since 1984
- Hermitage Board President 1993-1995
- Emmett was affectionately known as the “Mayor of the Taproom.”
- Longtime supporter of The Valentine as a volunteer, sponsor, and perennial starter
- Namesake of the Emmett J. Morgan Scholarship Fund to support the Jr. Valentine via scholarships as well as First Tee of Richmond programming
Emmett’s deep impact on the Hermitage community—through his genuine care for members, unwavering support for junior golf, and heartfelt appreciation for the staff—remains an enduring part of his legacy.
